Niagara River Shoreline Restoration

Challenge

Climate change will significantly alter the shorelines of Ontario’s Great Lakes and rivers in years to come.

Today millions of dollars are required to maintain and repair property as a result of storms and ice.

We need to look forward and prepare for what will come rather than just meet the problems as they arise today.

Solution

look beyond applying bandaids to today's problems

SMARTlab Niagara will deliver 8 novel solutions for climate restoration to be used by the Niagara region and beyond. We need to ensure the health and wellebing of both residents and the environment in years to come. Our tested and proven research methods will drive a co-creation experience to allow a wide variety of stakeholders to come together to begin solving this problem. We are looking for radical game changing ideas.

We are reminded as we gather, that SMARTlab Niagara is situated on treaty land that is steeped in rich Indigenous history and home to many First Nations, Métis and Inuit people today -  whom we recognize as contemporary stewards of the land and vital contributors of our society. We acknowledge Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation, Mississauga, Attiwonderonk, and Ho-de-no-sau-ne-ga on whose traditional territory we meet.
